About this consultation: Forward Thinking, Future Working is the title of the Health Protection Agency's (HPA's) consultation on the framework specification for HPA local and regional service provision. This seeks our partners' views on the future service we will offer locally and regionally.
From the outset we have sought to develop close partnerships to protect the public health. However the Health Protection Act 2004 has expanded our remit and high profile events and outbreaks have rightly raised public and stakeholder expectations of what we can deliver. There have also been major changes in the NHS and in wider public health arrangements. The increasing pressures do mean that we have to look at new ways of working and there is a need to harmonise core services across the country. It is therefore timely to revisit the way we work to clarify roles and responsibilities.
We have presented our proposals in the document Forward Thinking, Future Working for consultation with our partners. The consultation ends on 26 October and a summary of the responses and an interim report will be published on these pages within three months of this closure date.
