Secondments

Professional Attachments

The Centre for Infections provides college-approved secondments in communicable disease control and public health for trainees in Public Health and Microbiology. Secondments are usually for 4-6 months but may last for up to one year. We also participate in the European Programme for Intervention Epidemiology Training (EPIET) and regularly host training fellows from other European countries.

Professional Training In-Post

The specialised nature and high quality of the work of the Centre for Infections has led to the development of staff who are internationally and nationally recognised leaders in their field. For most areas of our work, we recognise that we need to continue to develop our own staff because of the unique nature of our work.

Training is essential in maintaining competency and in improving scientific and technical skills. This is particularly true for areas where the skill base is small in number (e.g. Mycology, health economics) and where a Centre Department can serve as a focal point to support training and in creating employment opportunities.

Hence the Centre for Infections provides support for higher academic training of medical and scientific staff including a number of PhD posts, MSc on part-time day release, public health professional training posts approved by the Faculty of Public Health , and other specialised training. For information on employment opportunites at the Centre for Infections please see our job vacancies page.
