The course will provide a basic understanding of the hazards associated with radiofrequency (RF) sources such as broadcast and telecommunications antennas and microwave dishes. It will cover recent changes in exposure guidelines, the European Directive on electromagnetic fields, and forthcoming legislation. Practical guidance on exposure and risk assessment will be given and a sound basis for a RF safety management programme will be introduced. Procedures for safe working practices and emergency arrangements will be discussed and the course will conclude with an update on current mobile telephony research and other initiatives.
This course is designed for any person who may work near a RF source or supervise such individuals. It is suitable for antenna riggers and construction workers employed on towers and masts. The course will be useful to those working on roofs such as electrical and heating engineers, maintenance and works department staff, surveyors and emergency services personnel. Managers and health and safety professionals will also find this course an ideal introduction to RF safety and risk assessment.
