EMFs and health: 2012 course

The course is designed to meet the needs of people working in local authorities, industry health and safety managers, as well as professionals working in environmental health, planning and public health medicine.

The course aims to provide decision-makers with background knowledge about the science, electromagnetic fields (EMF) risk management, and policy developments. It covers public and occupational exposures associated with the use of existing technologies, such as the distribution and use of electricity, and those associated with new and emerging wireless technologies.

The subject areas covered usually include the following.

  • Physical properties of EMFs and radio waves
  • Biological studies
  • Exposure guidelines
  • EMF risk assessment and communication
  • EMF sources (such as mobile phones, base stations, and power lines)
  • New research developments
