Microbiology Services, Colindale

The Microbiology Services (MS) division supports the agency in preparing for and responding to health threats by providing specialist and reference microbiology services and high containment microbiological research and reference capabilities. 

Health Protection Services, Colindale

The Health Protection Services (HPS) division conducts infectious disease surveillance, coordinates the investigation and cause of national and uncommon outbreaks, helps to advise the government on risks posed by various infections and responds to international health alerts.

  • Expert advice and issue of vaccines and immunoglobulins
    The centre's medical staff provide a 24-hour service to provide high level expert advice on the prevention and control of infections to local health protection units, public health specialists, microbiologists and other medical and nursing staff.

    Microbiology Services coordinates the investigation and response to national incidents and outbreaks and ensures that local incidents and outbreaks are investigated consistently across the country.
