This laboratory provides m icrobiological testing for stakeholders including local authorities, port health authorities, the NHS and commercial companies in the south west of England.

The Bristol laboratory is also involved in the multi-disciplinary Aquatest Project  led by the University of Bristol. The project aims to develop a low cost water detection device for developing countries.

Specialist Microbiology Network

As well as the FW&E laboratories, the Specialist Microbiology Network (SMN) manages a chain of microbiology laboratories which provide clinical testing and diagnostic services to the NHS and health sector.
