Bioinformatics

Welcome to Bioinformatics at the HPA Centre for Infections

The HPA Bioinformatics Unit is based in the Statistics, Modelling & Bioinformatics Department at the Centre for Infections, London. Our activities embrace molecular epidemiology, support services, and genome and in silico analyses, enabling public health microbiology throughout the organisation. We have expertise in the development and application of online tools for microbial investigation, including organism specific databases for typing and identification. The Unit also has a strong history of collaborative research with HPA and academic partners, both nationally and internationally.

Aims

  • Contribute to the development of microbial molecular identification techniques.
  • Implement online technologies to track the spread of infectious disease, as part of national and international collaborations.
  • Research novel analytical methods and bring them within reach of the user community.
  • Provide a supportive learning infrastructure in order to facilitate efficient use of current bioinformatics tools and techniques.
