Rapid Review Panel

The panel provides a prompt assessment of new and novel equipment, materials, and other products or protocols that may be of value to the NHS in improving hospital infection control and reducing hospital acquired infections.

The Rapid Review Panel (RRP) has been convened by the HPA at the request of The Department of Health. This was outlined in Winning Ways: working together to reduce healthcare associated infection in England and Towards cleaner hospitals and lower rates of infection.

United Kingdom Accreditation Service

The panel has a preference for data from UKAS-accredited laboratories. 

The United Kingdom Accreditation Service is the sole national accreditation body recognised by government to assess, against internationally agreed standards, organisations that provide certification, testing, inspection and calibration services.

Design Council

The Design Council promotes the use of design throughout the UK’s businesses and public services.

Its work demonstrates the vital role that design plays in the manufacturing process, creating profitable products and enabling long-term business development.

  • About the Rapid Review Panel
    The panel provides a prompt assessment of new and novel equipment, materials, and other products or protocols that may be of value to the NHS in improving hospital infection control and reducing hospital acquired infections.

  • Disinfection Statement
    The inability to kill pathogenic microbes is rarely the reason for the transmission of infections in healthcare. For disinfectants to make a contribution, they must interrupt routes of transmission of infection.

  • Recommendation statements by the Rapid Review Panel
    The Rapid Review Panel can make one of seven recommendation statements, numbered for clarity. Those products falling into the first recommendation will be considered for fast tracking into the future workplans of the NHS Purchasing and Supply Agency (PASA) and the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE).
