The Agency has an active programme of developing its intellectual property in partnership with others. The Agency has a proven track record of generating novel ideas, and an active patenting policy leading to new products and platform technologies.
The Agency has a successful history of out-licensing and partnership deals which have enabled such products and technologies to reach the market. Our strategic business goal is to build on and develop the intellectual asserts of the organisation in partnership with industry.

Our partnership opportunities offer practical and financial benefits whatever your research, manufacturing or service requirements; contact us to find out our unique range of facilities on offer.
The HPA Strategic Plan commits the Agency to contributing to various quantitative health outcomes and features a corporate goal to "exploit our assets to develop new evidence-based healthcare interventions". The achievement of this goal requires partnership with industry and other customers in order to better protect the public.
The driver behind this goal is not primarily financial, but is to ensure that technology developed by HPA is translated into practical outcomes in line with the recommendations of the Baker and Cooksey Reports. To this end, the HPA has a substantial intellectual property portfolio of patents and patent applications, the majority of which are licensed externally, as well as trademarks, copyright, and proprietary know-how.
The Business Development Department has, over the years, acquired valuable experience in IP commercialisation, to the extent that external organisations have been willing for us to undertake commercialisation on their behalf. We exploit our intellectual property assets (registered patents rights, know-how) and R&D capabilities through licensing, joint venturing, spin-outs and other routes.
Partly in recognition of our track record, the HPA and our partners in the InterAct consortium - a unique partnership between six leading UK government research organisations :
This summary below lists a number of HPA Patent Families (by technical area), provides a brief resume of each family, and lists the originating International patent application number and the granted patents in each family. We are keen to discuss licensing opportunities (except for those exclusively licensed) with potential licensees.
