Evaluation and learning are always important parts of public health work. The evidence base for preparing for mass gatherings and major international sporting events is developing but is not comprehensive. Every opportunity should be taken to contribute to this evidence base. Planning for the evaluation should therefore be an early part of the overall project.
The International Olympic Committee requires a report from Olympic host cities after the event. This is generally made available several years afterwards. These are available form the IOC website. Several host cities have also produced more detailed reports on their preparation and experiences.
