In 2010, 79 individual cases of chikungunya were reported in England, Wales and Northern Ireland compared to 59 in 2009. Chikungunya does not occur in the United Kingdom. All cases reported have been acquired as a result of travelling to endemic areas, the majority to South and South East Asia and Africa. [See table: note that the totals in the table may be higher than the total cases as some cases had travelled to more than one country.] See the chikungunya annual reports for further information.
