The remit of the Helicobacter Working Group is as follows:

Advise the HPA on all matters relating to Helicobacter-associated disease.

Each year, to produce a brief statement of the Working Group's programme of activities and objectives for the year ahead and an annual report to the Advisory Committee on Gastrointestinal Infections.

Review and advise regarding diagnostic methods already available, including validation of tests for use in quality control schemes.

Advise on development and validation of new diagnostic methods and performance of laboratory kits.

Review and advise on HPA surveillance schemes for Helicobacter pylori, particularly in relation to antibiotic resistance and treatment failure.
In collaboration with other bodies, develop and review guidance for management of Helicobacter-associated diseases.

Act as a focus for the dissemination of information related to Helicobacter activities within the HPA.
Contribute to the overview of communicable diseases.
