The CJD Section provides the CFI focus for health protection issues concerning CJD including variant CJD. We aim to further understanding of the epidemiology of CJD, and to reduce the risk of iatrogenic transmission of the CJD agent.

To do this the CJD Section:

• manages the secretariat for the CJD Incidents Panel.
• provides support to local public health teams that are investigating and managing CJD Incidents.
• manages a National Anonymous Tonsil Archive for studies of detectable abnormal prion protein.
