Influenza A (H1N1) virus

The H1N1 (2009) 'swine flu' pandemic virus emerged in Mexico in 2009 and spread around the world causing mild/asymptomatic disease in the majority of cases but severe illness and death in a small proportion of cases, particularly in more vulnerable groups.  In August 2010 the WHO officially declared the H1N1(2009) pandemic over.
