Proteome Analysis and the Search for Biomarkers

Intracellular and Membrane-bound proteins are being analysed either by 2-DGE with a linear/reflectron MALDI-TOF or by Tandem MS/MS in several grant funded collaborative projects with Proteome Sciences plc or Imperial College London. Imaging software (Definiens) is first used for gel to gel comparisons to identify novel peptides/proteins, which are subsequently enzymically digested followed by mass spectral analysis for identification.

We envisage that this approach will enable the identification of unique biomarkers for subspecific identification e.g. delineating serotypes, toxin-types etc.
