Specialist Reference and Translational Research of:
• Genital Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
• Hepatitis C Virus (HCV).
We currently do not offer a diagnostic service for HPV infection. Our primary focus is participation in a national HPV surveillance programme to monitor the impact of the HPV vaccine(s) on the UK population. We also have a small Research and Development team examining the immune responses generated to HPV vaccines and issues related to HPV pathogenesis.
We are involved in developing and validating novel serological and molecular tests for hepatitis C virus, including tests on oral fluid and dried blood spot samples. These are generally being applied in the context of enhanced surveillance of blood borne virus infections. The application of these methods to diagnostic screening is currently by special arrangement only – please contact the unit for details.
