A report on the management of diarrhoea in care homes image

Healthcare-associated infections continue to be a high priority for the agency. Surveillance data and epidemiological reports are produced for MRSA bacteraemia, CDI, norovirus, glycopeptide-resistant enterococci (GREs), surgical site infections (SSIs) and other organisms causing bloodstream infections.

Healthcare-Associated Infection and Antimicrobial Resistance: 2010-2011
The year 2011 saw the introduction of two major new national mandatory bacteraemia reporting schemes, for E. coli and MSSA as recommended by the Government’s Advisory Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare-Associated Infection. A continued coordinated approach across the Health Protection Agency and wider NHS is essential to understanding the epidemiology of HCAI and AMR.

English National Point Prevalence Survey on Healthcare-associated Infections and Antimicrobial Use, 2011: preliminary data
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) coordinated the fourth National Point Prevalence Survey (PPS) on healthcare-associated infection (HCAI) and first National PPS on antimicrobial use (AMU) in England. This survey is not directly comparable to previous surveys.

Tuberculosis Treatment Outcome Surveillance: Results on Tuberculosis Cases Reported in England, Wales and Northern Ireland in 2002
This is the second annual report for results of treatment outcome surveillance among tuberculosis cases reported through Enhanced Tuberculosis Surveillance (ETS). The results are for cases reported in 2002, and are based on information received by the Tuberculosis Section at the Health Protection Agency (HPA) Centre for Infections from the HPA regional tuberculosis coordinators as of December 2004.

This report presents results on tuberculosis cases reported in 2000 through Enhanced Tuberculosis Surveillance. The case reports were matched with data of mycobacterial isolates from MycobNet in order to improve completeness of surveillance information, especially on culture results, species and drug susceptiblity. Data on 2000 tuberculosis cases incorporated Northern Ireland for the first time. Trend data however are presented on England and Wales and exclude Northern Ireland.

Antimicrobial Resistance in 2000
