Synopsis

These are the first National guidelines on the microbiological quality of water on board ships in the UK. These joint water quality guidelines are the result of collaboration between the Health Protection Agency and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Port Health Centre through the Association of Port Health Authorities.

The guidelines are intended to foster high standards of environmental sanitation, critical to the success of protecting public health. Providing guidance to Ship Owners and Operators, Responsible Officers, Port Health Officers and Environmental Health Officers.

The advice covers microbiological guidelines, water sampling, disinfection and storage, swimming pool and spa pool water quality and the control of legionella bacteria on board ships.
