Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Serratia, and Citrobacter spp. bacteraemia, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland

This report contains data on Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Serratia, and Citrobacter spp. bacteraemias, with brief details on less common enterobacteriaceae.

These analyses are based on data extracted from our voluntary surveillance database on 11 October 2011 for the period 2006-2010. The data presented here differs in some instances from data in earlier publications due to the addition of late reports to the database.

There was a 2.7% decrease in the total reports of Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Serratia, and Citrobacter bacteraemia reported via the voluntary surveillance scheme in 2010 (9,799 reports), compared with 2009 (10,067 reports). Although the overall number of bacteraemia reports relating to these four genera decreased by 3.1% between 2006 and 2010, Klebsiella exhibited an increase by 11% during the same period.
