Background Information

Brucellosis is a zoonosis and human infections arise through direct contact with infected animals or their milk. Brucellosis is caused by Brucella species and these bacteria are widespread thoughout the world. However, brucellosis is rare in the UK and naturally occurring cases are usually acquired abroad.
