Current cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe

As of 9 December, the World Health Organisation has reported 16,141 suspected cases of cholera, and 775 resultant deaths since August 2008. Many provinces have been affected but 50% of all cases have been reported from Budiriro, a high density suburb of Harare. Cholera cases have also been reported in the neighbouring countries of Botswana, Mozambique and South Africa, mainly in people from, or with a history of travel to Zimbabwe. Cholera is endemic to Zimbabwe although outbreaks have become more common since the 1990s.
