Clinical trials in the Health Protection Agency (HPA) are coordinated from the Immunisation Department of the Centre for Infections in Colindale. There are several partners in the National Vaccine Evaluation Consortium involved in the trials (NVEC).
From within the HPA these are the Immunisation Department, the Gloucester Vaccine Evaluation Unit, the Manchester Vaccine Evaluation Laboratory and the Immunoassay Group. From outside the HPA these are the Institute of Child Health and the National Institute for Biological Standards and Control. For some trials we also work with specific partners who provide facilities and expertise to enhance the core structure of the NVEC, including universities and acute hospital trusts.
If you would like to see information about the trials the we are running at the moment please select the appropriate link below. Please note that participation in our studies can be dependent upon which area of the country you live in, and in some cases which surgery you attend, as we only have approval and staff in place in certain locations. If you have any questions relating to the trials listed, please contact the Clinical Trials Team at Clinical.Trials@hpa.org.uk.

Swine flu (Novel Influenza A H1N1) Vaccine Service Evaluation
The HPA are working with a few general practices in Hertfordshire and Gloucestershire as well as clinics at St Georges Hospital and Royal Marsden Hospital in London to provide a clinical service evaluation of the efficacy of the H1N1 vaccine provided to at risk groups in the national schedule. This involves offering two or three blood tests to ascertain the individual's response to the vaccine.
