This document describes the potential complications of shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC), also known as vero cytotoxin-producing Escherichia coli (VTEC), and how to handle them:

  • gastroenteritis
  • haemorrhagic colitis
  • haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS)
  • thrombotic thrombocytopaenic purpura (TTP)
