The Department of Health has established an independent body to advise across the areas of antimicrobial resistance and healthcare associated infections. This Advisory Non-Departmental Public Body, known as the Advisory Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare Associated Infections (ARHAI) met for the first time in July 2007. It replaced two existing committees: the Steering Group on Healthcare Associated Infection (SG-HCAI) and the Specialist Advisory Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance (SACAR), to continue providing expert advice to the Government on these areas.
