Enhanced Surveillance of Invasive Pneumococcal Disease (IPD)

The HPA is undertaking enhanced surveillance of invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD).  All isolates from IPD, irrespective of patient age should be referred, for serotyping, to the HPA pneumococcal reference laboratory.

Following the announcement of the introduction of PCV in the Routine Childhood Immunisation programme the HPA will be undertaking enhanced surveillance and further investigations of all cases of IPD in children eligible for routine or catch up immunisation.
