A multiagency workshop on managing outbreaks of gastrointestinal disease in prisons took place on 11th October 2010 and successfully brought together health care managers, nurses and health practitioners from prisons across the country. The aim of this exercise was to raise awareness among prison staff of the threat and consequences of gastrointestinal outbreaks by using scenarios and role plays that cover the steps of managing such outbreaks. Offender Health encourage prisons, in partnership with local NHS and HPA teams, to use the materials provided below to run training events locally to ensure that we are as prepared as possible for any future outbreaks or incidents.
