The HPA collect data on sexually transmitted infections diagnosed in England in genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinics (also called STI clinics) and other settings. The tables presented below provide information on trends in STI diagnoses over the past ten years and the numbers and rates of diagnoses by sex, age-group, sexual orientation and geographical distribution.

Since 2009, high-quality STI surveillance data were available by area of residence from the recently introduced Genitourinary Medicine Clinic Activity Dataset (GUMCAD) in England. The data are from a patient-level dataset (anonymised) which have been included in this year's STI data tables. The data have also been used to back-adjust the preceding eight years of STI data which were from the previous aggregated KC60 dataset.
STI diagnoses from 2008 to 2010 from both GUM and community-based settings are presented in Table 1. Data tables for England GUM clinics are presented in Tables 2-5. Data on chlamydia diagnoses from GUM and community-based settings are presented in Table 6.
Data from GUMCAD are presented in Tables 7-11 on chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, genital warts, herpes diagnoses and HIV testing uptake in England. Data presented by patient's area of residence in Table 7 also include data from the National Chlamydia Screening Programme (NCSP) and non-NCSP, non-GUM data. Tables 8-10 present data from GUM clinics at the patient's Strategic Health Authority of residence. Table 11 present HIV testing uptake at English GUM clinics by patient residence.
A summary report on the data is available in the HPA's Health Protection Report.
STI annual data are presented for England only.
