Hepatitis A is a vaccine preventable disease caused by the hepatitis A virus. It is acquired through eating or drinking contaminated food and water although can also be acquired through blood. It is now a relatively unusual infection in the UK and is more often associated with specific risk groups and foreign travel to endemic areas such as Asia, Africa, Central and South America, and some parts of Europe and the Middle East. See the Hepatitis A page of the website for more general and clinical information about this infection.
