Foreign travel has continued to increase since the 1980s, although since 2007 a decline has been seen. People travel for all sorts of reasons including for holidays, to visit friends and relations, for business, and for study. The majority of UK residents travel to European countries but increasingly are travelling to more tropical destinations. The data below summarise the latest available trends for UK residents together with a summary of global travel. Data for the UK are from the International Passenger Survey provided by the Office for National Statistics and global data are from the World Tourism Organziation.
