The South West Zoonosis Group aims to enhance communication and dissemination of information about zoonotic disease across the counties of Devon, Cornwall, Avon, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Somerset and Dorset. Multi-agency meetings take place twice a year and involve representatives from the Health Protection Agency, the Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency, the Department for the Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, and the Food Standards Agency. Each meeting also includes an educational Continuing Professional Development session, to which all appropriate parties involved in the investigation and control of zoonotic infections are invited. As such, the group acts as a source of advice within the region and provides links between the various agencies.
