NRRWSG Terms of Reference

A Steering Group for the National Registry for Radiation Workers study (NRRW-SG) has been established to discuss the use of data, enhance communications and facilitate data transfer between the data providers to the study and the Radiation Protection Division of the HPA, the managers of the study. The Terms of Reference will be:

  1. To facilitate the coordination of the transfer of data to the NRRW.
  2. To disseminate information on publication plans for NRRW and other approved analyses using NRRW data.
  3. To coordinate information to the workforces on the findings of the NRRW and other approved analyses using the NRRW data.
  4. To increase awareness of current and projected usage of NRRW data and interact on such usage, whilst maintaining the principle of scientific independence.
  5. To receive and consider proposals for the use of NRRW outside the agreed protocols.
  6. To promote compliance with Data Protection, Data Confidentiality and Research Governance issues.

The NRRW-SG is presently chaired by a Deputy Director of the Radiation Protection Division of the Health Protection Agency, but the Chairmanship is to be reviewed on a biennial basis. The Secretary will be provided by HPA Radiation Protection Division (Epidemiology Section). The membership of the NRRW-SG will consist of representatives from:

  1. The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority,
  2. The Atomic Weapons Establishment,
  3. British Nuclear Fuels plc, including Magnox Generation,
  4. The Ministry of Defence,
  5. British Energy, and
  6. The Health Protection Agency.

It is recognised that the current changes in the industry may lead to changes in membership of the Group in the future. It is also recognised that changes to organisational structures may result in organisational name changes. The nominated representatives of the above organisations and their legacy organisations will receive and consider proposals on behalf of their organisations.

The NRRW-SG will meet at least annually, but additional meetings will be required to facilitate the specific tasks required by the Terms of Reference. Additional meetings may be requested. The Steering Group will be acknowledged in all NRRW published reports.
