The Laboratory of Gastrointestinal Pathogens (LGP) provides reference services for a wide range of gastrointestinal, food and water-borne pathogens. It is in the Department for Bacteriology based at Colindale London and is part of the Public Health England Microbiology Services Division.

LGP consists of three reference units:

• the Salmonella Reference Unit (SRU)
• the Foodborne Pathogens Reference Unit (FBRU)
• the Gastrointestinal Infections Reference Unit (GIRU)  which contains the E coli, Shigella, Yersinia and Vibrio Reference Unit and the Campylobacter and Helicobacter Reference Unit

As well as providing reference services LGP has an active research programme.
