Quality Control Reagents
Who we are
As part of the Evaluations and Standards Laboratory, the Quality Control Reagents Unit is a centre of excellence for the Health Protection Agency and other laboratories in the UK. These include the National Health Service laboratories under Trust, the National Blood Service and other commercial interests.
All reagents provided by the QCRU are CE marked.
Annex II List A and List B reagents comply with Annex V (EC Type-Examination performed by the notfied body KEMA Quality) and with Annex VII (EC Declaration of Conformity made to the MHRA) in accordance with the in-vitro Diagnostic Medical Device Directive, 98/79/EC. This includes all reagents for HIV, HBV, HCV and HTLV (List A) and CMV, Rubella and Toxoplasma (List B).

What we do
The main function of the Quality Control Reagents Unit is to provide a service. The service is known as the Quality Control Reagents Scheme which is to:
- Supply clinical laboratories with quality control reagents
- Provide advice on best use of our reagents and help laboratories monitor these reagents
- Provide experienced help with problems associated with Internal Quality Control
- Provide information sheets (Instructions for Use) on products available
- Release News on new reagents being completed and new projects planned
All this is part of our Customer Care. It is one of the reasons for choosing IQC reagents from the QCRU
