Professor David J Lomas

David J Lomas qualified in engineering and medicine at the University of Cambridge followed by several years' medical practice in London and regional hospitals. He returned to Cambridge to train and qualify in radiology after which he was awarded the Kodak Radiology and Parke-Davies University Scholarships allowing him to spend six months in 1993 at the Mayo Clinic MRI Laboratory as a visiting scientist in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). He worked with colleagues at the Mayo Clinic on developing MR elastography before returning to a lecturer/honorary consultant post in radiology at Addenbrooke's Hospital and the Univeristy of Cambridge in 1994.

Since 1998 he has been lead clinician for clinical MRI services at Addenbrooke's Hospital and in 2001 he was appointed as Professor of Clinical MRI. Recently he has been a member of the Board of Trustees for the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and scientific program committee chairman for their annual conference in Toronto. He has also been chairman of the RCR Research Committee and a committee member of the British Chapter of the ISMRM. His research interests include the development of new body MRI techniques, hepatobiliary and gastro-intestinal imaging and he has published on cholangio-pancreatography, sialography, and novel methods for imaging small bowel disease and colon cancer.
