Sexually Transmitted Infections Annual Data

STI Annual Data Tables

The HPA collect data on sexual health services and sexually transmitted infections (STI) diagnosed in genito-urinary medicine (GUM) clinics and other clinical and community-based settings in England. The data provide information on trends in STI diagnoses over the past ten years and the numbers and rates of diagnoses by sex, age, ethnic group, sexual orientation and geographical distribution. Trends on the provision of GUM services, including sexual health screening and vaccinations, are also presented.

1. STI Report

The report, Sexually transmitted infections in England, 2011, in the HPA’s Health Protection Report, presents the most recent information on trends in STI diagnoses and the provision of sexual health services in England. This annual publication provides a useful background for interpreting patterns of STIs in England and their implications for programme planning and public health policy.

2. STI data tables

Selected trends in STI diagnoses and sexual health services over the last ten years and, in greater detail from 2009 through 2011, in England are available in Excel and PDF tables below.

Trends are described by service area or area of patient residence. Service area data represent people accessing services provided in England (i.e., data may include people who are resident in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, or abroad). Residence area data represent diagnoses according to the area where people live (i.e., not where they are diagnosed), thus only people resident in England are included.

Each table’s accompanying title, notes, STI code groupings, and GUMCAD submission pages gives a description of the content of the data.
