New HIV Diagnoses South East Coast 2011 Part 1 (PDF, 142 KB)
In 2010, as reported to end of June 2011, there were 385 new HIV diagnoses. The 2010 figure represents a 61% increase on the 239 new diagnoses in 2001. The overall UK increase since 2001 was 29%. Figures for 2010 are likely to rise as further reports are received. In 2010, an estimated 27% of newly diagnosed individuals acquired their infection heterosexually and were of black African ethnicity (UK average 31%) and 43% acquired their infection through sex between men and were of white ethnicity (UK average 37%).

There were 4,464 HIV diagnosed persons (all ages) resident in the South East Coast who accessed HIV-related care in 2010. This SHA had the highest proportion of individuals accessing care who were infected through sex between men (55%; 2,439) and the smallest proportion infected through heterosexual sex (41%; 1,803).
