Enterococcus spp. bacteraemia in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland: 2006-2010

This report updates data on Enterococcus spp. bacteraemia reported to the HPA’s voluntary surveillance database by participating laboratories in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. These analyses are based on data extracted from our voluntary surveillance database, and mid-2010 population estimates were used from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) website. In addition to voluntary surveillance of enterococcal bacteraemia, mandatory surveillance, in England, of bacteraemia specifically due to glycopeptide-resistant enterococci (GRE) commenced in October 2003. Results from this scheme for the year, October 2009 to September 2010, were published in June 2011.

 All Enterococcus spp. bacteraemia data presented in this report were extracted on 30^th September 2011; results are provisional and may change due to late reporting.
