The team gives round-the-clock, comprehensive, expert advice and support to the NHS and emergency services in the South West.

The unit deals with:

• Chemical incident surveillance
• Chemical incident management
• Environmental pollution
• Risk assessment
• Toxicology

For radiation incidents, the team is backed up by specialists from the  Centre for Radiation, Chemical and Environmental Hazards radiation division.
