The Single Equality Scheme

This consultation is now closed.

Single equality scheme policy is now available.

The new Single Equality Scheme is being consulted on from now until May 13th - please take the opportunity to find out about the scheme and let us know what you think through the feedback form.

What is it?

The Single Equality Scheme sets out our long term commitment to equality and diversity.

One of our core values is that we respect and value our staff as the cornerstone of the agency's success, managing them fairly and valuing our diversity as a source of strength.  We are also committed to providing a health protection service that recognises, respects, and responds to the diversity of the local communities we serve.

The Single Equality Scheme is instrumental in helping us to achieve these goals.

What does it do?

It consolidates and strengthens our commitment across all aspects of the agency and brings together our existing policies relating to the three 'equality strands' of race, gender and disability.  Taking our commitment further, it also recognises our responsibilities in relation to sexual orientation, age and religion or belief.

It sets out what we have already done and, more importantly, what our plans are for the next three years.  It defines our key themes for action and how we will monitor our progress taking in to account the constant change among the communities we serve and their health protection needs.

Consultation

For a period of 12 weeks from 18 February 2010, a draft of the Single Equality Scheme is open for consultation.  Members of the public, partners, stakeholders and a number of community groups with an interest in equality and diversity are all being asked to give us feedback to help develop our action plan and define our priorities.

The scheme is available on the website and opportunities will be organised for people to comment on the scheme, including those groups that may have been under-represented in the past.  A hard copy is also available in different formats on request.

Following the initial consultation period, we will incorporate the feedback we receive into the scheme and an updated version will be available.

The HPA sees the Single Equality Scheme as a living document - as such, the views of interested groups and individuals will continue to influence its development over time.  While the formal consultation period will finish on 13 May we will continue to welcome responses provided after that date.

We invite and welcome your responses to this consultation by 13 May 2010 - click here to give your response
