On 29 December 2010 the WHO reported that the Ministry of Health of Egypt had announced two new cases of human infection with H5N1 avian influenza. A 28 year-old woman from Damanhour district of El Beheira governorate developed symptoms on 12 December. She was admitted to hospital on the 14th and subsequently discharged on the 22nd in good and stable condition. An 11 year-old girl from Esna district of Luxor governorate developed symptoms on 18 December and was admitted in the hospital the following day. She experienced severe respiratory symptoms requiring mechanical ventilation and died on 23 December. A 21-year-old female from Bandung City, West Java, Province developed symptoms on 14 November, was hospitalized on 22 November and is currently in hospital. Initial investigations indicate the case resided in an area close to a business where chickens were kept and the area was found to be lacking cleanliness with chicken droppings present. A 30-year-old female from Gharbia Governorate, developed symptoms on 28 November, was hospitalized on 1st of December, where she received oseltamivir treatment, and died on 2nd of December. On 19 November 2010 the WHO reported one new case of human infection of H5N1 avian influenza from Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Hong Kong SAR) , China. The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH), Hong Kong, China, had reported this new case of H5N1 infection on 17 Nov 2010. The case is a 59-year-old female. She had onset of symptoms on 2 November and was admitted to hospital on 14 November. She was diagnosed to have pneumonia and is now in a critical condition. So far, a total of 21 human cases of influenza A (H5N1) infection were recorded in Hong Kong SAR China, including 18 cases in 1997, two cases in 2003 and the current case in 2010. On 18 October 2010 the WHO reported two new cases of human infection of H5N1 avian influenza. A 35-year-old male from West Jakarta, Jakarta Province developed symptoms on 16 August, was hospitalized on 20 August and died on 27 August. Initial investigations into the source of his infection suggest a number of sudden chicken deaths occurred around the case’s house a week before onset. The second case, a 40-year-old female from Kota Depok, West Java Province developed symptoms on 9 September, was hospitalized on 12 September and died on 17 September. A 13-year-old female from Sukoharjo District, Central Java Province developed symptoms on 16 June, was hospitalized on 21 June and died on 24 June. A 34-year-old female from South Jakarta District, DKI Jakarta Province developed symptoms on 25 May, was hospitalized on 27 May and died on 1 June. Laboratory tests were positive for H5N1 virus infection. The case was possibly infected from environmental exposure to manure in her plant nursery.

On 08 May 2010, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that the Ministry of Health in China had announced a new confirmed human case of H5N1 infection. The case is a 22-year-old pregnant female from Hubei Province. She had onset of symptoms on 23 May and died on 3 June. Investigations into the source of her infection indicate exposure to sick and dead poultry. Close contacts of the case are being monitored and to date all remain well.

On 06 May 2010, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that the Ministry of Health of Indonesia had reported two new cases of human infection of H5N1 avian influenza. A 45-year-old female from the city of Malang in East Java province developed symptoms on 22 February. She recovered and is in a healthy condition. The case disposed of dead chickens in the 4 days before onset of symptoms.
The second case, a 4-year-old female from the city of Pekanbaru in Riau province developed symptoms on 19 April, was hospitalized on 22 April but died on 28 April. Investigations into the source of infection are ongoing.

On 04 May 2010, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that the Ministry of Health of Cambodia had reported a new case of human infection of H5N1 avian influenza. The 27-year-old male, from Prey Veng Province, developed symptoms on 13 April 2010, was admitted to the hospital on 16 April and died the following day. The presence of the H5N1 virus was confirmed by the National Influenza Centre, the Institute Pasteur in Cambodia. The patient prepared and consumed sick poultry in the 7 days before onset of symptoms.

On 21 April 2010, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that the Ministry of Health of Viet Nam had reported two new cases of human infection of H5N1 avian influenza on 6 and 9 April 2010. These cases were confirmed at the National Institute for Hygiene and Epidemiology.
The first case is a 22 year old male from Nhu Co commune, Bac Kan province. He developed symptoms on the 28 of March 2010 and was transferred to the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases in severe condition. Confirmatory test results for influenza A (H5) were obtained on 3 April.
The initial epidemiological investigations show that there were sick/dead poultry at the patient's home and in the surrounding areas.
The second case is a 2 year old girl residing in Cho Moi district, Bac Kan province. She developed symptoms on 2 April 2010. On 4 April, she was transferred to Cho Moi District Hospital for treatment where she is in a stable condition. Confirmatory test results for influenza A (H5) were obtained on 7 April.
The initial epidemiological investigations show that there were sick/dead poultry at the patient's home and in the surrounding areas. The patient's family slaughtered the sick poultry to eat.
There is no epidemiological link between these two cases that would indicate human-to-human transmission.

The case was a 3 year old girl residing in Thuan An district, Binh Duong province. She developed symptoms on 5 March 2010 and presented to Thuan An District Hospital and a private health facility for investigation and treatment. On 10 March, she was presented to the Pediatrics Hospital No. 2 where she was suspected to have influenza A (H5N1). Despite treatment, the case died on 17 March.

The case is a 25 year old woman residing in Soc Son District, Hanoi. She developed symptoms on 5 March 2010 and was hospitalized on 7 March 2010 at North Thang Long Hospital. On 10 March 2010, her condition had worsened so she was transferred to Bach Mai Hospital where she is being provided with ventilation.
An epidemiological investigation showed that the patient had exposure to sick and dead poultry.

The second case is a 1 and a half year-old male from Elhamool district, Kfr Elsheikh Governorate. He was hospitalized on 2 March, where he received oseltamivir treatment. He is in a stable condition.

On 04 March 2010, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that the Ministry of Health of Viet Nam had reported three new cases of human infection of H5N1 avian influenza including one fatality. Two cases have been confirmed at the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE) and one case has been confirmed at the Pasteur Institute, Ho Chi Minh City.
The first case is a 3 year-old female residing in Ninh Hoa District, Khanh Hoa Province. She developed symptoms on 27 January 2010, and was hospitalized at Ninh Hoa district hospital on 28 January. She is recovering well. The source of exposure is currently under investigation. Her family raises chickens but did not report any mass poultry illness or death. However, Ninh Hoa District and Van Ninh District are currently being monitored because of recent H5N1 poultry outbreaks.
The second case was a 38 year-old female residing in Cai Be District, Tien Giang Province. She developed symptoms on 13 February 2010. The patient was admitted to the Sa Dec Hospital in Dong Thap Province on 21 February where she died on 23 February. An epidemiological investigation showed that the patient had slaughtered and processed sick water fowl.
The third case is a 17 year-old female residing in Son Duong District, Tuyen Quang Province. She developed symptoms on 19 February 2010 and was taken to the Son Duong District General Hospital on 24 February where she is currently being treated for mild breathing difficulties. Approximately, 10 days ago, there were unexplained deaths of chicken in the patient's household. She participated in the disposal of the dead poultry.

The third case is a 10 year-old male from Meet Ghamr district, Dakalia Governorate. He developed symptoms on 10 February and was hospitalized on 14 February, where he received oseltamivir treatment. He is in a moderate condition.
The fourth case is a 30 year-old female from Kellin District, Kafr El-Sheik Governorate. She developed symptoms on 10 February and was hospitalized on 11 February, where she received oseltamivir treatment. She is in stable condition.
The fifth case is a 13 year-old male from Kafr El-Sheik District, Kafr El-Sheik Governorate. He developed symptoms on 10 February and was hospitalized on 14 February where he received oseltamivir treatment. He is in stable condition.
Investigations into the source of infection indicated that the five cases had exposure to sick and dead poultry.

The first case is a 32 year-old male from Ashmon district in Menofya Governorate. He developed symptoms on 6 February and was hospitalized on 8 February, where he received oseltamivir treatment. He is in a stable condition.
The second case is a 29 year-old pregnant female from Elsadat District, Menofya Governorate. She developed symptoms on 6 February and was hospitalized on 12 February, where she received oseltamivir treatment. She died on 13 February.
