Testing samples in the South East

The HPA's Regional Microbiology Network (RMN) manages a network of laboratories in the South East which provide microbiology testing services to the NHS and clinical health sector.

The South East network is led by the lead clinical laboratory based in Southampton, which is also the national referral unit for Lyme Disease.

A further five collaborating labs, based within NHS trust hospitals in Kent, Brighton, Portsmouth, Reading and Epsom, extend the HPA's reach across the region.

The six laboratories altogether provide clinical testing and diagnostic services to the region to assist the investigation, prevention and control of communicable disease and infection. Staff in the laboratories support the work of general practitioners as well as healthcare organisations, such as hospitals and primary care trusts, in their areas.
