Management Statement

The broad framework within which the Health Protection Agency will operate is set out in the Health Protection Agency's Management Statement (PDF, 109 KB)

  that has been agreed with the Department of Health. In particular, this framework sets out:

  • the rules and guidelines relevant to the exercise of the Health Protection Agency's functions, duties and powers;
  • the conditions under which any public funds are paid to the Health Protection Agency;
  • how the Health Protection Agency is to be held to account for its performance;
  • the Health Protection Agency's overall aim(s), objectives and targets in support of DH's wider strategic aims and current Public Service Agreement (PSA).

The management statement, which does not convey any legal powers/ responsibilities, may be amended as a result of proposals made by the Secretary of State or the Health Protection Agency, and approved by the Secretary of State, at any time, and will in any case be reviewed by the Department at least once every five years.
