Erysipeloid - Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae

Erysipeloid is rare skin condition caused by the bacterium Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae. The bacteria are introduced accidentally from infected animals through pre-existing skin wounds. Human erysipeloid is largely an occupational disease of slaughterhouse workers, agricultural workers, and those in the meat-handling and fishing industries. Human infection is rare in the United Kingdom.
