The aim of Sexual Health Promotion is strengthening the HPA’s contribution to sexual health protection and its capacity to evaluate the impact of public health interventions and health promotion strategies to reduce both levels of high risk sexual behaviour and new cases of HIV and STIs. The initial objectives will be to develop a framework for the national monitoring of HIV and STI prevention activities and to map local sexual health promotion activities both within and outside of the HPA.
The framework will require a synthesis of available information, such as public health interventions that have been shown to be effective (http://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/index.jsp?action=byID&r=true&o=11377), the strategies to promote behaviour change (http://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/index.jsp?action=byID&r=true&o=11675) and the presentation of data to evaluate the outcomes of sexual health promotion in the UK.
