Influenza Pandemic Contingency Plan

UK Pandemic Influenza Contingency plans

The HPA Pandemic Influenza Contingency Plan (October 2009) outlines the Health Protection Agency’s plan for responding to an influenza pandemic. The plan is intended for use by HPA staff and partner agencies and provides a framework for the HPA’s response to an influenza pandemic, in the context of the UK Departments of Health (DH) Pandemic Influenza National Framework for Responding to an Influenza Pandemic (November 2007).

The HPA plan, describes the roles and activities of each of the HPA Centres and Divisions, for each WHO pandemic influenza alert Phase and UK Alert Level (within WHO Phase 6). These include the activities undertaken to meet the HPA’s responsibilities outlined in the DH Pandemic Influenza Contingency Plan, the internal resiliency arrangements and the activities needed to support the NHS response.

The HPA’s preparedness planning for an influenza pandemic is an ongoing activity and will be updated regularly. Comments to inform this review are welcome and can be submitted to Influenza Surveillance Information Service (ISIS) by email: isis@hpa.org.uk .

Mini-plans have been created for each Centre and Division. These are summaries of the national plan and contain only the actions allocated to the relevant Centre/Division. They should be read and used in conjunction with the full plan.

The mini-plans are available below:
