Guidelines for the management of norovirus outbreaks in acute and community health and social care settings

Synopsis

This version replaces the previous version which expired on 3 Feb 2012. There were the following amendments:

1. Inclusion of the date of literature search (page 6).
2. Inclusion of an explanatory comment concerning chlorine containing cleaning materials (e.g. wipes) (page 41 with asterixed references to this throughout).
3. Correction of a typographical error in the chlorine concentration from 10000 ppm to 1000 ppm (page 41).
4. The date of review for this web based document is now 31 Dec 2016 (page 42).

The guidelines have been written by a Working Party which consisted of representatives of the following six organisations:

• British Infection Association
• Healthcare Infection Society
• Infection Prevention Society
• Health Protection Agency
• NHS Confederation
• National Concern for Healthcare Infections

All of these organisations were equal partners in the production of the guidelines which are the result of two sequential consultations, one with the councils (or similar) of the organisations and the second with the wider memberships. The second consultation was also extended to external stakeholder organisations.
