The Health Protection Agency, now Public Health England, spent 7 years preparing for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to ensure world class systems were in place to help protect the health of those attending and participating in the Games.
This report and supporting papers covers all areas of the Health Protection Agency’s (HPA) work during the Olympic and Paralympic Games including:
- enhanced reporting
- response
- risk analysis
- laboratory systems
- surveillance
- highlights from HPA’s operational cells
- evaluation of the agency’s Games-time working
The Olympic and Paralympic Games legacy includes the sharing of knowledge and experience between those involved in the planning and delivery of future Games. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) are working to share information associated with mass gatherings to improve health protection.
