The Health Protection Agency (HPA) London provides support in communicable disease and Infection Control, chemical hazards, emergency planning, and some laboratory services for a population of over seven million people. It works with the National Health Service (NHS), government organisations, and services such as utility companies.
Four Health Protection Units (HPUs) serve the London region. Each team of a Unit has a clinical leader, consultants who are specialists in communicable disease, nurses, and other staff with health protection skills. Teams have access to expert advice on chemical and radiological issues, health emergency planning, and communications.
