Regional Microbiology Network

Welcome to the Regional Microbiology Network.

The Regional Microbiology Network (RMN) is a specialist network of laboratories operating across England. The network provides a wide range of clinical and public health microbiology tests for either the NHS and clinical health sector, or in testing food, water and environmental samples (FW&E) for local authorities and other stakeholders.

All of the nine English regions, except the East Midlands region, contain a lead clinical and public health laboratory for each network, and each of the nine regions contains a lead FW&E laboratory. The lead laboratories operate as hubs in the region and work alongside a number of collaborating laboratories which provide additional or specialised testing services. In many cases, the same laboratory site will offer both clinical and public health tests as well as food, water and environmental services.
