North Yorkshire and Humber Health Protection Unit

The North Yorkshire and Humber Health Protection Unit (HPU) provides specialist health protection advice as well as operational support on all health protection matters to NHS trusts, local authorities, community health services (including schools and social services), and the general public. The North Yorkshire and Humber Health Protection Unit teams are responsible for the surveillance and control of communicable diseases across the county of North Yorkshire, the East Riding, North and North East Lincolnshire and the cities of York and Hull. Working closely with partner organisations, we aim to reduce the impact of infection in the community by a combination of situation response and strategic development. The health protection teams cover the co-ordination of immunisation and tuberculosis in North Yorkshire and the Humber. The Unit also has responsibility for the health protection aspects of emergency planning and non-infectious environmental hazards response.
